Albia

Sometimes a small-town getaway is just what you need to slow down and hit refresh. Whether it’s just an outing for the day or an overnight, Albia will deliver relaxation and recreation with a heavy dose of charm. There is something for everyone, year-round, in Monroe County. Outdoor enthusiasts and hunters love the paradise called South Central Iowa with its fantastic lakes, forests, wildlife areas, parks & trails. Albia is located just 15 minutes from Rathbun Lake and Honey Creek Resort State Park. In the summer, you can take a swim at the beautiful Monroe County Aquatic Center with its water slides and diving boards, surrounded by the Albia City Park boasting tennis, disc golf, and more. Enjoy a walk, run, or ride on our emerging bike trail system. Stroll around Welcome Home Soldier, a public monument of national magnitude that honors all veterans. Go canoeing at the Albia Reservoir or boating and fishing at Lake Miami State Park. Miami offers an incredible experience with modern cabins, shelter houses, a trap shooting range, and an education center featuring live elk and deer.

Schedule your visit during one of our community festivals to really experience Albia at its finest. Take a walk down memory lane during Albia Restoration Days, April 22nd - 27th; Kick up your heels at the Albia Area Chamber Main Street Rodeo on June 1st; Shoppe ‘til you Drop at one of our retail events: First Friday or Junk Journey; find nostalgia at Rodders Car Show and Bob Reed Memorial Tractor Show on June 22nd; or dig into your country roots at the Monroe County Fair July 24th - 29th. Just looking for food and fellowship, stop in town for Lunch on the Lawn scheduled on select Mondays.

In the winter, step back in time with us for a magical Christmas celebration during Victorian Stroll on December 7th. The holiday lights shine brightly each night until the New Year. Albia’s Downtown District is a hidden gem that is rich in history with a 92-building Historic Commercial District and quaint shops including gifts, clothing, furniture, antiques, and cafes. Catch a show in our newly restored theater and grab a bite to eat at a local pub or steak house for a night out.

For an extra helping of small-town hospitality, consider one of our many lodging accommodations. Whether you want to stay at a delightful bed & breakfast, in peace and seclusion camping in a rural cabin, or closer to the sites at a hotel or resort, Monroe County offers the perfect option for you.
